Hoje em dia essa manifestação popular faz parte do imaginário cultural de El Salvador, onde é representada a guerra dos Mouros e Cristãos e o conflito da conversão ao cristianismo. Nesse processo, os indígenas se apropriaram dos costumes e inseriram novos significados que falam da resistência imposta por eles à colonização.
