For Vortic "Female Voices of Latin America" we present MIRROR. A curious definition of the object “Mirror” [1](from the Latin speculum) states “the mirror is a surface that reflects a luminous ray in a defined direction, rather than absorbing or scattering it in all directions. The distances of the objects are always considered positive and the distances of the images are considered positive for real images, and negative for virtual images ”. Thus, a faulty metaphor from its definition of image for the new “spectrum” that we are experiencing.
Five women artists in the show MIRROR – Aleta Valente, Ana Linnemann, Laura Lima, Maria Laet and Renata Lucas – come as mentions, chosen and invited by A Gentil Carioca by reflection.

We go towards what we see when we look in and out of the mirror. This selection of works presents a virtual exhibition conceived through a mirror, which reflects the current state of our shared experience of immersion into the digital space. Deriving out of displays, we are seen and also perceive multiple reflections. This proposal is a game of mirrors and the contemplation of its possible points of view inside and outside.
The vastness conveyed by a mirror facing another breaks the planarity of its surface and opens a window that pushes us into a zone of perspectives as peculiar it is curious. While our silhouette fades in the distance, what is material in us remains here. We all experience something similar in front of the screen, what is shared online, the sharpness of imagination, the opacity of representation and the reflection of ideas.
The recent works of these artists points towards these multiple realities, perspectives and duplicated images, and coexist in their own poetic itinerary.
