Novíssimo Edgar: Arqueologia de si
For the show, Edgar proposes his own lexicon made up of shapes, symbols and colors. This vocabulary, which dwells at the intersection of historical/cultural productions from different societies, arises from the artist's search for his origins: “I'm doing an archaeology within myself in order to find a lost civilization, which touches on issues of ancestry, colonialism and diaspora.” With a critical text by Tamar Clarke-Brown, curator of Serpentine Gallery, the exhibition presents a set of new works including sculptures, paintings on fabric and objects made by hand by the artist. According to Tamar, ”Novíssimo embraces the archeological method to further his investigations on ‘becoming’, weaving memorial and ancestral threads into new formations”.
