Esse ofício de rabiscar sobre as coisas do tempo exige que prestemos alguma atenção à natureza
A Gentil Carioca is pleased to announce This craft of scribbling about the things of time demands that we pay some attention to nature, a solo show by Maria Laet at our headquarters in São Paulo. The show, which opens on Saturday, November 18, brings together works that refer to movement, the passage of time and the transformation of matter, always looking at nature.
The phrase that gives the exhibition its title begins the chronicle Speak, Almond Tree by Carlos Drummond de Andrade. In the story, the author talks to the almond tree in front of his house, seeing it as his personal fall.
“The privileged agent of Maria Laet’s poetic investigation is the body, the artist’s living body, a way of apprehending and interpreting the world, a means of permanence and belonging. Her practice conceives time as a site for inscribing knowledge, which is written in the gesture, in movement, in choreography, and on the surface of the skin. It is as if the act of seeing has always ended in tactile experimentation.”
