Abre Alas 19
A Gentil Carioca is pleased to announce the 29 selected artists for the 19th edition of Abre Alas, the first exhibition in the gallery’s calendar of activities in 2024.
This year, the selection committee – made up of Agrade Camiz and Daniela Castro – performed a kind of auscultation of a social body, whose breath we understand being the arts, reverberating from and throughout the projects and artistic practices that we received to compose the 19th ABRE ALAS.
BELLACOMSOM, Brenda Cantanhede, Bruno Pinheiro, Carlos Matos, Cynthia Loeb, Emilia Estrada, Guilherme Kid, Jeff Seon, Joelington Rios, Jorge Cupim, Jota Carneiro, LYV, Luiz Pasqualini, Marlon de Paula, Matheus Pires, Mauricio Igor, Medusa, Nalu Rosa, Natha Calhova, Naomi Shida, Rafael Simba, RHAY, Silia Moan, Sofia Ramos, Thaís Iroko, Thiago Modesto, Uma Moric, Virginia Di Lauro.
A colective, live, pulsating breath. Spewing volcano lava. Earth’s breath-resistence. We measured temperatures that quantify, project and demand political health of the communities, cities, rivers, people, borders, winds, legislations that impact this body.
ABRE ALAS 19 is an invitation for artists and/or collectives to submit their own projects in a wide variety of languages: paintings, photographs, performances, installations, etc. Up to 20 artists will be selected for a group exhibition at A Gentil Carioca in Rio de Janeiro.
