Denilson Baniwa | Frontera
A Gentil Carioca invites you to the opening of Frontera, Denilson Baniwa's first solo exhibition at the gallery in Rio de Janeiro, this Saturday, November 12, from 6pm to 10pm.
The artist immerses himself in the history of the “descimentos”, processes of compulsory migration of indigenous people from the Amazon who moved to work in extractive industries, in a regime of exploitation of their labor and knowledge. The exhibition presents new works and reinforces how this is an inextricable process of territorial problems – from the persistent invasion of indigenous territories, which never ceased to take place, to the abysmal delay in the demarcation of their territories.
From 8 pm to 11 pm we will open the dance floor at the crossroads to the sound of Zulu Anápuàka Tupinambá, founder of the first indigenous radio in the country, communicator and activist.
"Narrating the memories of the descimentos through ancient petroglyphs and simultaneously creating new drawings that refer to recent events means following the course of ancestral communication, producing statements in the present that will be secretly passed on to future generations."
