The themes covered by the paintings are old acquaintances of the artist: migrations –especially those caused by the slave trade – and the issue of ethnic identity. The already established characters are repeated. This is the case, for example, of the black girl removed from the cover of an Oscar Peterson album, "Girl Talk" (1968), who appears now as a small child, then a bigger child, and then older, darker, sadder.
