Education Shirt 92 | Ana Matheus Abbade
2025
Miss Manicure is the edition of Camisa Educação conceived by Ana Matheus Abbade, an artist and manicurist who, since 2016, has been intersecting care, transformation, and beauty as forms of political and sensitive language.
The work is part of an ongoing body of research that brings contemporary art practices closer to gestures and routines often relegated to the field of informal or domestic work. In this context, the practice of manicure, with its technical precision, relational intimacy, and symbolic power, acts as a key to reprogramming the links between aesthetics, language, and power.
On the shirt itself, among other phrases, the phrase-work Unhas Rasgarão Cidades (Nails Will Tear Cities Apart) stands out, directly linked to the Pronome series, a photography intervention carried out in the same year, 2016. This inscription functions as a manifesto, crossing temporalities and practices, and reaffirms the capacity of small actions and marginal bodies to impact broad spaces and structures.
The T-shirt acts as a surface of circulation and friction. The phrases printed on its fabric do not function as advertising slogans, but as traces of expanded listening, fragments of affective thought that reverberate between the intimate and the public, between the skin and the city. The teaching it proposes is not based on formal instruction, but on exposure: becoming visible, touchable, legible, and undisciplined.

Camisa Educação [Education T-Shirt] | Previous editions
Developed by A Gentil Carioca since 2005, the Camisa Educação [Education T-shirt] project represents a possibility for an artist to insert himself in society as a social and cultural agent. Periodically, during exhibition openings at the gallery, shirts with the theme of education are launched, designed by guest artists - represented or not by the gallery. The only requirement made of artists is that they incorporate the word 'education' into their creations.
