Inspirado nas manifestações de rua ocorridas no Brasil em 2013, exigindo melhores serviços públicos, o fim da corrupção, se posicionando contra os gastos exorbitantes com os megaeventos que estão para acontecer no país e decorrentes abusos contra a população, OPAVIVARÁ! leva frases de protesto e reflexão para as cangas de praia.

As praias sempre foram relacionadas apenas com espaços de alienação, lazer e descanso. No entanto, seu poder de congregar pessoas de todas as áreas geográficas, classes sociais e religiões transforma este espaço numa enorme ágora de areia, sal e sol, capaz de promover encontros e gerar conversas e discussões. Usualmente as cangas de praia trazem imagens de um país colorido, vibrante, com suas paisagens exuberantes. Sem dúvida essas são importantes características brasileiras. Mas ao adicionar a tudo isso mais uma camada de protesto e pensamento ativamos o espaço da praia gerando outras relações, assim como as manifestações fizeram em 2013, invadindo as ruas com a potência transgressora do carnaval, adicionando a isso gritos de protestos propositivos, criando um ambiente de festa e política, que mesmo sendo violentamente reprimido segue seu caminho.

Estendidas na areia ou envolvendo os corpos bronzeados, as cangas se espalham pela cidade deixando em seu rastro suas mensagens. As 5 frases impressas são: ABAIXO AS CALÇAS, XÔ CHOQUE, SURUBA NÃO É FORMAÇÃO DE QUADRILHA, TODO O PODER À PRAIA, ASSASSINARAM O CAMARÃO. Cada frase trás em si muitos significados, doses de humor e de ácida ironia sobre as políticas públicas cerceadoras que se seguiram às manifestações de rua que foram violentamente reprimidas pela polícia. Foram confeccionadas 100 cangas e distribuídas gratuitamente pela praia de Ipanema durante o evento Alalaô no Arpoador em 2013.


Inspired by the street demonstrations that took place in Brazil in 2013, demanding better public services, an end to corruption, taking a stand against the exorbitant expenses with the mega events that are about to happen in the country and resulting abuses against the population, OPAVIVARÁ! takes phrases of protest and reflection to the beach sarongs.

The beaches have always been related only as spaces for alienation, leisure and rest. However, its power to bring together people from all geographic areas, social classes and religions transforms this space into an enormous agora of sand, salt and sun, capable to promote meetings and generate conversations and discussions. Usually the beach sarongs bring images of a colorful, vibrant country with its lush landscapes. These are undoubtedly important Brazilian characteristics. But by adding a layer of protest and thought to all of this, we activate the beach space generating other relationships as the demonstrations did in 2013, invading the streets with the transgressive power of carnival, adding to that cries of propositional protests, creating a party and a political atmosphere, in which, despite being violently repressed, continues on its way.

Laying on the sand or wrapping tanned bodies, the sarongs spread around the city leaving their messages in their wake. The 5 phrases printed are: ABAIXO AS CALÇAS, XÔ CHOQUE, SURUBA NÃO É FORMAÇÃO DE QUADRILHA, TODO O PODER À PRAIA, ASSASSINARAM O CAMARÃO. Each sentence carries with it many meanings, doses of humor and acid irony about the restrictive public policies that followed the street demonstrations that were violently repressed by the police. 100 sarongs were made and distributed free of charge by Ipanema beach during the Alalaô event in Arpoador in 2013.
