Juana Ramirez y Juana Raymundo were militants of CODECA (Peasant Development Committee) and MLP (Liberation Movement for the Peoples). Juana Ramirez (left) was founder of the women's rights network Ixiles de Nebaj in Guatemala, midwife and mother of seven children. She had received death threats that were reported to the Public Ministry. Juana is the third indigenous leader murdered in the area during 2018, aged 56. Now in 2020, the film repeats itself with Juana Raymundo. Nurse, community leader Ixil de Nebaj, responsible for political training of young people in the organization CODECA. At just 25 years old, she was found dead by neighbors near a small river between Nebaj and Acabalam, with signs of torture on her body. The militants assess that the organization is a “stone in the side of the neoliberal feast and US colonialism in Guatemala, with the MPL becoming a real political threat in the face of the crimes of the transnational oligarchy in the country”.
