Rose Afefé
Para quem não sabe, ela é a mulher que construiu uma cidade sozinha.
– Luiz Zerbini, 2024
Rose Afefé was born in Varzedo, in the interior of Bahia, in 1988. Based on her childhood memories, the artist works in various media, including installation, painting and photography. In 2018, she began building Terra Afefé, a micro-city on a human scale built with earth, using the adobe technique (raw clay bricks) and painted with lime.
Located in the rural area of Ibicoara, Bahia, in the Chapada Diamantina region, Terra Afefé presents itself as a place of encounter and coexistence, which links art and life and fosters local perspectives in order to enhance the territory's knowledge. Observation and interaction with nature are used to produce life that is more pulsating and spontaneous. Finally, the poetics of this territory unfold in the imagery production and fabrication that surrounds Rose's artistic work.
