For Paris+ par Art Basel 2024, A Gentil Carioca is proud to present the culture of funk carioca (Rio de Janeiro funk), which has become a powerful manifestation of mass culture, amplifying the voices of historically marginalized communities, and enabling the sharing of their struggles, celebrations, and way of life. Through a dialogue between artists of different generations and contexts, such as Arjan Martins, Agrade Camíz, Denilson Baniwa, O Bastardo and Vivian Caccuri, the booth highlights how this musical genre went beyond the geographical limits of favelas, reaching into different layers of society and becoming influential in many fields, among them, the visual arts.
