Rodrigo Torres (Rio de Janeiro, 1981)

Artista visual brasileiro, vive e trabalha no Rio de Janeiro. Os trabalhos produzidos por Rodrigo Torres são em sua maioria esculturas em cerâmica, objetos tridimensionais que se mesclam com fotografias e pinturas, que se unem em uma simbiose que consiste na elaboração de uma linguagem visual disruptiva. Impregnados de estratégias de deslocamentos óticos e transformações ilusórias por caminhos poéticos, as formas e texturas se entrecruzam e a natureza do material traz o olhar do espectador a viajar por entresuas especificidades. Desafiando o caráter decorativo versus o museológico, as cerâmicas instauram dúvidas e polaridades através da técnica hiper detalhista. Vasos, jarras, frutas, legumes, pequenos objetos, embalagens de proteção, dentre outros adereços e balangandãs do cotidiano, tornam-se objetos ornamentados que mesclam presença ou ausência de figuras e fundos alternando densidades, volumes e cores. Todos esses materiais embaralhados voltam a se encontrar em um espaço de mimetismo. O artista envolve horizontes e geometrias em esculturas que desafiam o espectador em dicotomias de realidade e ficção, entre as quais tudo ganha formas e vida. Em suas obras, Rodrigo exercita o natural e o imaginado com equilíbrio e os trabalhos ganham tons tautológicos e enigmáticos.

Brazilian visual artist, lives and works in Rio de Janeiro. The works produced by Rodrigo Torres are mostly ceramic sculptures, three-dimensional objects that blend with photographs and paintings, that come together in a symbiosis and consist of the elaboration of a disruptive visual language. Infused with strategies of optical displacements and illusory transformations through poetic paths, the shapes and textures intercross and the nature of the material brings the viewer's gaze to travel among its specificities. Challenging the decorative versus the museological character, ceramics instill doubts and polarities through the hyper-detailed technique. Vases, jars, fruits, vegetables, small objects, protective packaging among other props and everyday frills, become ornate objects that mix the presence or absence of figures and backgrounds that vary in density, volume and color. All these shuffled materials are once again in a space of mimesis. The artist involves horizons and geometries in sculptures that challenge the viewer in dichotomies of reality and fiction, among which all this takes on forms and life. In his works Rodrigo exercises the natural and the imagined with balance and the works take on tautological and enigmatic tones.
