RAFAEL ALONSO Born in Niterói in 1983, lives and works in Rio de Janeiro. He graduated in Painting and has a Masters degree in Visual Languages from the Escola de Belas Artes (School of Fine Arts) of the UFRJ. In his work he proposes a negotiation between his everyday life and his artistic practice – investigating the possibilities of articulation between his day-to-day experience and painting. Alonso experiments with spaces for color, form and gesture whilst not removing painting from its critical model of reflecting on its time and place.
His solo and group exhibitions include: the 10th Mercosul Biennale, Porto Alegre, Brazil; Cariocas, Lille 3000, Lille, France (2015); A teoria do desvio dos raios luminosos e outras histórias, SIM Galeria, Curitiba, Brazil (2014); his solo exhibit “Torto”, at A Gentil Carioca, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (2016); Lugares, Ações, Processos, 19° Encontro do Programa de Pós-Graduação em Artes Visuais-EBA/UFRJ at the Centro Municipal de Arte Hélio Oiticica, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (2013); Palácio, Alvaro Seixas, Hugo Houayek e Rafael Alonso, at the Funarte Gallery, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (2012); Pintura Ampliada, Centro Cultural Banco do Nordeste, Fortaleza, Brazil (2011).
