João Modé

JOÃO MODÉ, b. Resende (1961), lives and works at Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. His work is marked by a plural notion of languages and areas of expertise. He works mainly with video, photographs, installations, actions with public participation and interventions in architectural spaces. He has a degree in Architecture and Visual Programming and a Masters in Visual Languages from the UFRJ – Rio de Janeiro. Some of his works feature in the collections: MAM SP; MAM Rio ; Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo and Frac Bretagne , France .

João Modé participated of 28th Bienal de São Paulo(2008), 7th and 10th Bienal do Mercosul (2009/2015) and the Aichi Triennale in Nagoya (2016). Highlited solo exhibitions include: O Passado vem de frente numa brisa, Museu do Açude, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; Algumas coisas que estão comigo, A Gentil Carioca, Rio de Janeiro (2015);  Land, die raum, Berlin, Germany (2014); Para o Silêncio das Plantas, Cavalariças do Parque Lage, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (2011/2012); Eva [Invisíveis], Fundação Eva Klabin, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil(2009). Selected group exhibitions he participated: Grand Bienal Tropical, San Juan, Porto Rico (2016); A cor do Brasil, Museu de Arte do Rio, Rio de Janeiro (2016); Cariocas, Maison Folie Wazemmes, Lille, França (2015); Arte e Patrimônio, Paço Imperial do Rio de Janeiro (2014); Tout est la, Pavillon Carré de Baudouin, Paris (2013);The Spiral and the square, Bonnierskonsthall, Stockholm, Sweden (2011) and Trondheim Kunstmuseum, Norway (2012); Conectar, A Gentil Carioca at IFA galerie in Berlin and Stuttgart (2010-2011). The artist also developed projects with Capacete Entretenimentos [Rio], Le Centre du Monde [Bruxelas], Casa Tres Pátios [Medellin], Watermill Center [NY], among others.
